- Description
- Black and white photograph of neighborhood children playing on Thacker Street, late 1940s. Four children are playing on the sidewalk, one of whom is seated in a Radio Flyer wagon. After World War II, Des Plaines farm fields gave way to suburban streets that served as playgrounds for Baby Boomers, like William Alfini Jr. He is among the children pictured. His father, William Alfini Sr., was a developer whose construction company built the Georgian style homes near Thacker and Wolf. Alfini’s Georgians housed many young families that moved to the suburbs “for the kids” after World War II.
