- Description
- Two small children and a woman leaving the Des Plaines Mall building on March 30 or 31, 1996, during the Des Plaines Public Library's book sale, which took place in the mall. The ill-fated mall was the keystone project of the Superblock development in downtown Des Plaines, located on Ellinwood Street between Lee and Pearson Streets. The mall and Superblock development failed to live up to expections; the mall management company went bankrupt in 1983, and the mall's anchor stores had moved out by 1996.
