- View of Ellinwood Street, circa 1940's. Prior to the building you see in this photograph, this corner was the site of the first Des Plaines Village Hall, from 1892 to 1937. Back of postcard has a one cent "For Defense" postage stamp. National Defense Issue stamps were released in 1940 before the United States involvement in World War II. A list of stores visible in the postcard appears below. [Note: The item pictured here is from the archives of the Des Plaines History Center; a duplicate of this postcard was uploaded by user Harold Slotta.]
