- Description
- Postcard of Maine Township High School, circa 1930s. In 1902, the first Maine Township High School building opened its doors to students on Thacker Street in Des Plaines. However, the populations of Des Plaines and Park Ridge grew, so a new high school was built at Dempster Avenue and Potter Road in Park Ridge and opened in 1931. The vacated building became the home of Des Plaines Junior High School and later, by 1954, Thacker Junior High School. The Junior High closed in 1967 as newer, more modern school buildings were built. The old high school building was demolished in 1961 and is now the site of a park.
