- Description
- Sepia-toned photograph of a schoolhouse and it's students, 1868. This two-room schoolhouse was the second school that served the children of Des Plaines and stood on the east side of Pearson Street, near the intersection of River Road and Jefferson Street. Built in 1852, it replaced the original 1840 one-room schoolhouse that stood at Perry Street and River Road. The school was demolished in 1874 when the four-room old North School was built nearby on River Road, where Shop & Save stands today. A list of the students and faculty is handwritten on the back of the photograph.
